The Church presented a new exhibition on its ground floor, PADRÃOS, featuring the work of Dr. Leslee Stradford. It was part of four exhibitions curated by Julie Keyes and Eden Williams on the East End, and was being presented as part of Carnegie Hall's extensive Afrofuturism events. Stradford’s PADRÃOS collages were inspired by professor Herman L. Bennett’s “African Kings and Black Slaves: Sovereignty and Dispossession in the Early Modern Atlantic.”

A reception was held on Saturday, February 5 at 4:30pm.

On February 12, Dr. Stradford and Professor Bennett discussed the PADRAOS exhibition. Padrãos are markers erected by Portuguese colonialists in Africa, and their historical and contemporary significance, and Dr. Stradford's work being done in response to them, was discussed.

The talk was on Saturday, February 12, at 4:30pm and was open to the public.

This program is part of a series on Afrofuturism, a show that reimagines the future by honoring now. Afrofuturism, as explained on the Carnegie Hall website, is "an ever-expansive aesthetic and practice—where music, visual arts, science fiction, and technology intersect to imagine alternate realities and a liberated future viewed through the lens of Black cultures".
