During our annual Community Residency, we invite selected artists of the East End to work on campus at The Church to enrich and foster artistic community and dialogue. This year we’re thrilled to welcome ANNA!, Ben Hassett, Jackie Hoving, Kerry Sharkey-Miller, Mark Webber, and Andre Worrell to join us in residence! Stop by between 1:00 – 3:00 pm on December 15th to see and hear more about their works and process.

MEET THE ARTISTS: 

  • ANNA!, the mysterious artist known for her enigmatic works inspired by the streets of New York and its derelict underground spaces, blurs the boundaries between light and darkness through her captivating portrayals of characters from stories and myths. Among them, Alice in Wonderland, Marilyn Monroe, the Morton Salt Girl, Beavis and Butthead and Susan Walker Morse, her art is brimming with a complex duality, the essential tension between life and death. Telling Jetset Times she is “witnessing the future unfolding and the past ending” with each passing day, her thought-provoking art has been featured at the Bowery Wall, 17 Frost Gallery, and Scrap Yard, and in a recent solo exhibition at The Bank of New York Gallery, which included NFTs, videos, and paintings.

BEN HASSETT

Photographer

  • British artist Ben Hassett explores themes found throughout the history of Photography. He carefully examines Photography’s significant and recurrent subject matter (the portrait, the still life, the nude, the landscape, the floral study) in an effort to reevaluate and challenge convention. In parallel to his photographic art practice, Hassett collaborates with editorial and advertising clients as a commercial photographer and motion pictures director.

JACKIE HOVING

Visual Artist

  • Jackie Hoving is a New York based artist, curator and educator. Her work is engaged in concealing and revealing through patterns and layers, weaving together images to create a camouflaged, non-linear narrative. Hoving has attended Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art and Music, Vermont Studio Center, and Oxbow Artist Residency. As a founding member of the artist-run space Tiger Strikes Asteroid Gallery in Brooklyn she has had the opportunity to curate several shows including “Magic Shell” and "Night Flight”. Hoving is an accomplished educator who has taught for many years at Pratt Institute and Rhode Island School of Design. Hoving’s work is currently on view in the Brooklyn Artists Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum.

KERRY SHARKEY-MILLER

Photographer

  • Kerry Sharkey-Miller is a fine art photographer based in Sag Harbor, New York with an extensive background in fine art and media production. She received her BFA in Photography from LIU. In recent years she has been developing a photographic body of work which is reflective of her passion for the beauty and preservation of the flora and fauna of our natural environment, and has been exploring contemporary methods of alternative process and mixed media that are much less toxic to humans and the environment.

MARK WEBBER

Visual Artist

  • Mark Webber is an artist working and living in Sag Harbor, New York. Attended Windham College and earned a BFA in sculpture from SUNY at Purchase Webber has been creating 2 and 3 dimensional work for 40 years, and continues to push the boundaries of multiple conventional and non conventional materials, exploring their relationship to the space they inhabit. Recently, he was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and has let this challenge finds its way into the artwork creating a new language so to speak. . He was a recent fellow awarded at the Vermont Studio Center 2024, and is in various collections throughout.. His work has been exhibited at the Lauren Rogers Museum in Laurel Mississippi, and his work is represented by Anita Rogers Gallery, NYC. Webber lives and works in Sag Harbor, NY. 

ANDRE WORRELL

Multi-disciplinary Artist

  • Andre Worrell is a multi-disciplinary artist who employs a range of media and techniques, exploring the dichotomy between the beautiful and grotesque. Raised in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Worrell relocated to NYC in his late teens.His irreverent approach has yielded a body of work that draws inspiration from a multitude of disparate sources including music, politics, fairytales and decay. Worrell is especially captivated by the face, a form he frequently manipulates as a subversive tool. He has also fronted several rock and roll rock bands, most notably Mephiskapheles, of which he is the lead singer and frontman.
