Hamptons Jazz Fest presents Middle Eastern vocalist and composer Galeet Dardashti and the all-female Mizrahi band Divahn. Together, the all-woman musical group celebrate Middle Eastern heritage, infusing traditional songs with sophisticated harmonies, funky arrangements, and entrancing improvisations. From music festivals, to live television and radio programs, Divahn has sparked international interest and welcomed audiences to a beautiful sphere of multiculturalism. As the lead singer of the edgy all-woman Mizrahi ensemble Divahn, Dardashti entrances audiences and lends dimension to the group with her diverse background.
Granddaughter to the premier voice of Persian classical music, Yona Dardashti, and daughter to the esteemed cantor Farid Dardashti, Dardashti is the first woman in her family to continue the tradition. She has performed through the US and Israel, producing significant cantorial work and gaining an international following. Following in the footsteps of her family’s esteemed legacy and creating her own legendary path to pursue, Dardashti arrives to The Church during a time of cultural significance and prepares us all for the coming year. Her sultry delivery, depth of cultural respect, and the ensemble’s fusion world music is sure to have a lasting impression that lingers with listeners.

ABOUT GALEET DARDASHTI
As the granddaughter of Yona Dardashti, the most renowned singer of Persian classical music in Iran in his day, and daughter of highly esteemed cantor Farid Dardashti, Middle Eastern vocalist and composer Galeet Dardashti is the first woman in her family to continue her family tradition of distinguished Persian and Jewish musicianship. Her newest performance, Monajat, is inspired by the poetic prayers of Selihot, recited during the month preceding Jewish New Year. It si a time specific oconcert and program that takes place during a period of deep reflection and spiritual preparation. Her acoustic/electronic solo project The Naming, supported by a Six Points Fellowship and a Hadassah-Brandeis Institute Fellowship, draws inspiration from the musical and cultural landscape of the Middle East and some of the provocative yet unsung Biblical women who have lived there.
Galeet also pursues her passion for Jewish music and cultural as an anthropologist. She holds a Ph.D. in anthropology, specializing in cultural politics and contemporary Middle Eastern/Arab music in Israel. She is currently Assistant Professor of Jewish Music and Musician-in-Residence at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and she has published widely on her work. She offers residencies, lectures, and workshops on her artistic and academic work.
ABOUT DIVAHN
Lead singer Galeet Dardashti follows a family tradition of distinguished musicianship dating back to the 19th-Century Persia. But it was down in Austin, Texas, where Divahn’s bold all-woman Mizrahi/Sephardi ensemble began dazzling audiences with its Middle Eastern grooves. Infusing traditional and original Jewish songs with sophisticated harmonies, entrancing improvisations, and funky arrangements, today Divahn has engendered an international following, performing in venues ranging from top concert halls in Poland to the post prestigious clubs in NYC.
The group’s thrilling live shows include lush string arrangements, electric Indian, Middle Eastern, and Latin percussion, and vocals spanning Hebrew, Judeo=Spanish, Persian, Arabic, and Aramaic. Dardashti’s diverse background performing Persian and Arab classical music, Ashkenazi cantorial music, Western classical music and jazz enhance Divahn’s unique and innovative sound.
ABOUT GESHER | THE BRIDGE SHUL
Led by Rabbis Jan Uhrback and Michael Boino, Gesher | The Bridge Shul is a fully inclusive and egalitarian, intellectually challenging, and musically creative synagogue based in Bridgehampton. The only traditional egalitarian synagogue on the East End, Gesher is thrilled to co-sponsor this concert in celebration of its 25th anniversary in the Hamptons and its new name (formerly "The Conservative Synagogue of the Hamptons").

Hamptons Jazz Fest, produced by The Jam Session, Inc., is a series of performances that bring world-class musicians in the fields of jazz, Latin, and world music to a diverse cross-section of populations on the east end of Long Island, held in iconic venues throughout July, August, and September. HJF also stages a Winter Series during the remainder of the year. They present dozens of concerts at no or low cost and collaborate with other non-profit cultural organizations like OLA of Eastern Long Island, the Parrish Art Museum, The Church in Sag Harbor, East Hampton LTV, the Bridgehampton Childcare and Recreation Center, the Shinnecock Nation, and others to engage the diverse groups from the East End in our performance and educational events.

The Jam Session, Inc. is a not-for-profit production and education arts organization that produces live jazz music, including Latin and world music, through performances, recording, broadcast, and educational opportunities for the people of the East End of Long Island, primarily Eastern Suffolk County. The Jam Session brings the music to the community it serves in various ways, including at partnering venues that are accessible and well served to the public. The Jam Session’s ultimate purpose is to bring these diverse groups together through music and have shared public experiences and thus nourish the roots of the community…its people.
