The Church welcomes Masayo Ishigure, renowned musician, and Koto player for a beautiful and intimate performance in our studio space alongside her gifted students. After the performance, there will be a brief Q&A with the performer and an opportunity to learn more about the beloved instrument. Named by Newsweek as one of the “100 Japanese People the World Respects,” Ishigure makes this special appearance at The Church before departing to join the Japanese Matsuri Festival, a day-long celebration of Japanese culture at Sen Restaurant.

The stringed instrument is an integral part of Japanese culture with roots of origin dating back to 7th century B.C.E.  As the national instrument of Japan, what better way to celebrate the historic 30th anniversary of our programming partner Sen Restaurant than with a performance of the highest caliber on an instrument with deep ancestral ties? Join us!
