“In another time’s forgotten space / Your eyes looked from your mother’s face. . . . If you get confused, listen to the music play” — The Grateful Dead
Celebrate Mom, Grandma, aunties, sisters, and all the maternal figures in your life by joining us for a Mother’s Day sound bath with the incomparable Daniel Lauter. Back by popular demand, the MeditationDJ takes participants on a deeply soothing and relaxing journey through sound, bathing you in the meditative tones that melt away stress and help you recharge and rejuvenate. Bring your yoga mat, pillow, blanket, or anything else you need for your comfort as you enjoy the sounds of crystal bowls, symphonic gong, Himalayan bells, yidaki (didjeridu), rain sticks, and more.
A well-versed student of Buddhist sutras, Daniel is also a classically trained musician who customizes his sound baths with musical phrasing, melody, and harmonic balance. Whether as a gift to mom or a maternal gift of self-care, this Mother’s Day sound bath is a perfect start to a Sunday morning.
DANIEL LAUTER
MeditationDJ
-
Daniel Lauter, aka MeditationDJ, is a creative composer on multiple instruments, a classically trained musician, and saxophonist. He is among the pioneers of modern sound healing, incorporating into his Sound Journeys the experiential and transformational qualities of crystal bowls. He was among those who produced that genre’s first digital recordings.
Daniel and his wife, Donna, founded an interdisciplinary performance gallery called Modern Rites/Ancient Waves in Northern California that was among the first to exhibit and curate Aboriginal dreamtime and Central Desert dot painting. Also offering storytelling and music events at the gallery, they presented artists, wisdom keepers, and elders hailing from the Bunjalung, Pomo, Lakota, Yoruba, Huichol, and other nations.
It was during these times that Daniel’s “dream work” began in transformational ways that greatly influenced his performance style. He developed an extensive palette of exquisite, innovative global sounds that, for more than 40 years, he has used in his magical sound-alchemy performances at galleries, yoga studios, and music venues.
Following a music-conservatory education in New York, studying clarinet with principals of the New York City Ballet and New York City Opera, Daniel studied at the Center for Experimental and Interdisciplinary Art in San Francisco. He also fronted original jazz/funk groups on saxophone and played in tribal swing and ambient ensembles, as well as the prominent punk band Rx in the throes of the San Francisco club scene.
Daniel is a student of Buddhist sutras, having received empowerments and transmission on Prajñāpāramitā (Heart Sutra), Medicine Buddha, Tara(s), Vajrayogini, Chakrasamvara, Body Mandala, Sarasvatī, and Avalokiteśvara. He has lectured on the integration of sound and mindfulness at conferences internationally.
