After Hours with Sara Cochran

  • The Church 48 Madison Street Sag Harbor, NY, 11963 United States (map)

Tickets

  • Members: $10

  • Non-Members: $20

Join Sara Cochran, curator of our exhibition Are You Joking – Women & Humor, for what will be her final After Hours with The Church. In this program, guests can view the exhibition outside our normal hours, providing an exclusive experience, before sitting down to hear Sara in conversation with Eric Fischl about the process and insight gained during the curatorial process. Following the discussion, there will be a Q&A with the audience.

Sara was the inaugural Chief Curator at The Church. She announced her resignation in April and this exhibition is her last. Learn what prompted the theme of this Summer’s show, what criteria Sara looked for in the works selected, and hear her overall reflections on women’s role in the world of humor.  Following the program, we welcome our community to celebrate our witty and beloved curator, joining us in expressing our gratitude for her work here and wishing her well in her future adventures and endeavors.

  • Sara joined The Church in 2019 and has worked on over 10 exhibitions, including 4 major exhibitions she co-curated with Eric Fischl: Road Rage (2021), Empire of Water (2022),Threading the Needle (2022), and Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing (2023). Previously, she collaborated with artist Gregory Sale on his year-long project Future IDs on Alcatraz in the San Francisco Bay, was Director and Chief Curator at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Phoenix Art Museum. Earlier in her career, she held curatorial positions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She earned her Ph.D. in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. In 2015, she was participated in the Getty Leadership Institute at Claremont Graduate Universities.
