Hand over your expectations, and hold on to the new and strange, Claire Watson joins us for Insight Sunday to discuss select works from her “With Kid Gloves” series that are included in our exhibition Are You Joking – Women & Humor. The visual artist, who is known to take common materials and present them in new and unexpected ways, will discuss this selected body of work and more. Following the behind the scenes look at the creation of the pieces, Claire will host a Q&A with the audience.

Join us as we reconsider the use of common materials as art, explore the humor in letting go of our expectations and preconceived ideals, and get a peek inside the mind of the self-taught seamstress of the unconventional.

Claire’s work can be viewed as part of the exhibition during our gallery hours, Thursday through Monday, 11 AM – 5 PM.

  • Claire is a visual artist whose work spans four decades and encompasses drawing, sculpture, and mixed-media constructions from found materials. Her recent work is based on the use of salvaged, disassembled leather clothing. Born in Amarillo, Texas, Claire earned a BFA in painting from the University of Texas in Austin, and an MFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art in Rome and Philadelphia. She’s currently based in New York City and eastern Long Island, where she raised two sons with her husband, artist Stephen Laub.
