    Sept 25 & Sept 26th

From commercial designs to fine art editions, the applications of silkscreen printing are vast. Traditionally a stencil-based process, silkscreen can allow for a design or composition to be reprinted indefinitely as an artist’s edition, or by varying color, placement, and materials, can produce monoprints with uniquely experimental results. Led by artist Susan Bachemin, Painterly Processes with Silkscreen will offer an introduction to the process while also exploring the medium from an artistic perspective. Over two 4-hour sessions, participants will work through the planning, development, and printing of a serigraph, learning how brushstrokes, fine lines, and other mark-making techniques can be reproduced through a screen.

A materials kit with a printing screen, squeegee, paper pad, and other assorted supplies will be included in the cost of admission and can be taken home following the workshop. All other necessary equipment and supplies will provided for the duration of the course. A variety of reference books will also be made available. No additional materials are required.

Class size is limited to six to ensure an optimal participant-to-instructor ratio.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TWO-SESSION WORKSHOP

Susan Bachemin

  • Susan Bachemin is currently Printmaker-in-Residence at The Church where she co-facilitates workshops as well as printing for individual artists in semi-private sessions. Her education includes film studies at the San Francisco Art Institute and a BFA in printmaking from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Eventually designing and executing her own site-specific silkscreen work from her NYC studios, Bachemin was a co-founder of the Brooklyn-based SB STUDIOS design partnership and has executed numerous public and private paint/print commissions featured in publications including NYT Styles, World of Interiors, Architectural Digest and New York Behind Closed Doors (Devlin, Pimpernel Press). Her pivot as an artist and arts educator working primarily on the East End affords Bachemin the opportunity to share knowledge and enthusiasm for serigraphy and other print processes in this extraordinary community of artists.
