Nicole Windenberger kicks off our Fall Wellness Monday Program with an introductory workshop in Vedic Dance. Experience the basics of this Indian dance tradition that is grounded in the experience of consciousness and transcendence and is rich in physiological benefits, bringing practitioners good health and happiness. 

Often characterized by flat colors and bold graphic shapes, block printing has long been an affordable and approachable medium for creating multiple prints. From a block of linoleum, an image is created by carving away areas of negative space. Leaving only the final design, the block can then be rolled with ink and printed using a press or by hand. Once carved, the block can be printed indefinitely, varying color, orientation, and even layering additional blocks. Led by artist and printmaker Robynn Smith, this workshop will offer an introduction to the block printing process, exploring techniques for carving, printing, and more.

From commercial designs to fine art editions, the applications of silkscreen printing are vast. Traditionally a stencil-based process, silkscreen can allow for a design or composition to be reprinted indefinitely as an artist’s edition, or by varying color, placement, and materials, can produce monoprints with uniquely experimental results. Led by artist Susan Bachemin, Painterly Processes with Silkscreen will offer an introduction to the process while also exploring the medium from an artistic perspective. Over two 4-hour sessions, participants will work through the planning, development, and printing of a serigraph, learning how brushstrokes, fine lines, and other mark-making techniques can be reproduced through a screen.

Hosted in the library of The Church, this class will be a safe, supportive place to develop ideas and begin work on a novel or short story of your own.

Join artist Toni Ross for an introductory class on the practice and technique of weaving with a small hand-held loom! During this three-hour session, participants will learn the basics of weaving, including how to make and warp a loom, tabby weaving, rya knots, interlocking and non-interlocking techniques, how to finish and remove a work, tuck in loose threads, and more! Throughout the day, Toni will discuss her preferred tools and materials while providing an exclusive look into the practice and technique behind her own projects. A variety of reference books will also be made available.

Join internationally renowned vocalist and composer Arta Jēkabsone for an introductory workshop on the art and practice of songwriting! In this session, Jēkabsone will explore the improvisational nature of songwriting and discuss how simple melodies can transform into complex compositions when combined with the spoken word. Over the course of three hours, participants will be guided through a series of exercises and techniques designed to encourage creativity and embrace improvisation, allowing them to develop compositions of their own.

Land Acknowledgments are a traditional custom in many Native communities and nations and have served as a means of paying respect to the inhabitants of the land since time immemorial. These days, American communities are creating these public ceremonies to represent milestones on the journey of Relationship-building, Healing & Reconciliation. In this 3-hour workshop, Rev. Houston R. Cypress, a Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer Artist and Environmentalist from the Otter Clan of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, will discuss how to go beyond land acknowledgment into action. Using movement, music, cinema, and text, Cypress will guide participants through a process of crafting an interdisciplinary expression of land acknowledgment for the lands on which they live.
